ỌLÁYIMIKA

Arewà Okunrin
That makes my hearts melt like ice.
The first time we met,
I could not tell you how I felt
Because it was just too soon
To feel such depth of love.
The feelings you evoked stirred up
Emotions as deep as Ọdọ Osun.
With its deep root somewhere
Between Agbedemeji ayé àti Orún.
I was not only bewildered by my feelings
But shocked as well—
So I consulted Orunmila
To know if you were real or a fluke.
I questioned Ọlódùmarè
About why thoughts of you keep coming
Like the Abiku that denied his mother peace.
I asked ifá to send you on exile
Faraway from my thoughts to Eyin Odi
So I would stop breaking my mother's pot
Each time I accost you on my way
Back from the stream of osun.

You still visit like Àbíkú—
Yes! Your numerous wanderings
Earned you the pẹlẹ that sit on your cheeks.
Well, I paid a visit to Olúáwo
To offer sacrifices to the divinties
Since my mind is now your new playground.
And when the gifts were dropped at the Oritameta
That leads to the heart of the witches,
I was asked to give my peace offering
To one Arewà Okunrin—
The Opele of WordPress,
The Ìgi ìrókò of Ecx,
Egun alárè of Tech,
Babalawo of codes.
Bewildered, I blessed the mothers
But cursed inwardly at my fate.
And now l seek to unravel the mystery
That has made you a blessed curse.
